About Us

Steatite Antennas (formerly Q-par Angus) is a world renowned, UK based custom antenna designer and manufacturer. The company has been at the forefront of microwave antenna development since 1973.

Steatite excels in the research, design and manufacture of specialist, high specification, custom designed antennas. This wealth of expertise also carries into the company’s substantial range of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) antennas and associated components. Typically engineered to operate in the 30MHz to 60GHz frequency range, Steatite antenna products are available as follows:

L band antennas (1GHz to 2GHz)
S band antennas (2GHz to 4GHz)
C band antennas (4GHz to 8GHz)
X band antennas (8GHz to 12GHz)
Ku band antennas (12GHz to 18GHz)
K band antennas (18GHz to 26.5GHz)
Ka band antennas (26.5GHz to 40GHz)

With more than 40 years of microwave engineering, design and manufacturing expertise of ultra wideband single and dual linear receive and transmit antennas and subsystems, Steatite Antennas has a proven capability to provide a wide range of high quality antenna products. Steatite’s wideband antennas are suitable for a  range of applications, including but not limited to:

 Surveillance and Spectrum Management
 ELINT and COMINT
 Radar Warning Receivers
 Simulators / Threat Emitters
 ECM & ESM
 Test and Measurement
 Meteorological Sensors

Located in a modern, purpose built facility in Herefordshire, which combines extensive design, engineering, manufacturing and test capabilities on one site, Steatite adopts the latest technology and manufacturing techniques to produce cutting edge antennas designed to operate at the very edge of technical capability.

In house test facilities include a state-of-the-art Spherical Near-field RF Test Chamber. This fully anechoic chamber measures 7m x 5m and is 6m in height, making it one of the largest in the UK. It is capable of accommodating antennas from small horns up to 3m diameter dishes, and across the frequency range of 500 MHz to 40 GHz. This superb facility enables full far-field measurements to be derived without the need to use a large scale external test range.

Steatite regularly undertakes antenna related research and development for both military and civil clients, including development studies, prototyping, and technical concept studies. Technical consultancy and in-service support form part of Steatite’s regular portfolio of activities.

Steatite uses leading commercial electromagnetic design software CST Microwave along with dedicated in-house algorithms, enabling it to analyse and optimise a wide range of antenna and microwave component designs; whilst mechanically, a mixture of design and analysis tools including SolidWorks, Cosmos and FEA are used. The company has formal quality accreditation to ISO 9001:2015.
